Quick trivia question: what does our theatre seating, concessions area, and acoustical treatments have in common with Iron Man 3, Thor: The Dark World, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Guardians of the Galaxy, Avengers: Age of Ultron, and Ant-Man? They're both part of Phase Two's!
That's right, we're moving into the next stage of our renovation efforts at the Oriental Theatre! OT heads will recall that phase one included the construction and addition of women's restrooms on the first floor, new projection and sound equipment, and repairs to our roof and ceilings. Phase two kicks things up a notch, starting on May 15, and including:
Thanks to our current concession stand for all of the memories...and snacks. Snacks and memories.
Concession Stand Replacement - The current concession stand, which is not original to the cinema, will be completely redesigned to improve efficiency and allow for a greater variety of refreshments and snacks.
Sound Improvements - Main house sound absorption paneling along the ground floor back walls and balcony will be installed to greatly reduce reverberation and sound bleeding between theaters. In addition, a more robust sound speaker system will be installed to greatly improve clarity. Milwaukee Film will also be investing in a new assisted-listening device system to improve clarity for guests who may need hearing assistance.
Safety Improvements - Upgrades to fire safety systems, including improvements to fire alarms and exit doors, will bring the cinema up to code and ensure the safety of visitors.

Seat Replacements - The westernmost side house will have significant work on the floors and seating plan, along with all the seats being replaced, to improve sightlines and accessibility.
Replacement of seats in the main and east houses is set for the third phase of renovations in 2020, enabling the cinema to remain open and continue operations throughout the summer months.
NOTE: Milwaukee Film intends to complete all phase two projects before the 2019 Milwaukee Film Festival.
