Welcome to Milwaukee Film, Marielle!

mkefilm_022117_marielle02Is it normal for people to get gifts the day after Presidents Day? Because Milwaukee Film just got an incredible present: Meet our brand new Education Programs Coordinator, Marielle Allschwang.

Marielle is a musician, artist, sometimes freelance writer, and Montessori-trained educator. She received a dual degree in Studio Art and Art History from Wellesley College before returning to her hometown of Milwaukee to work in various arts nonprofits including A.W.E. and RedLine MKE. She also spent four wonderful years at Alverno Presents as Operations Coordinator.

Speaking of Alverno Presents, four years ago we collaborated with them to present "Altos: Earth" as the Centerpiece Screening of our 2013 Milwaukee Film Festival. While a 35mm copy of Earth (Zemlaya) played on the big screen at the Oriental Theatre, Milwaukee's own Group of the Altos performed an original live score. Marielle was not only a member of Group of the Altos, but it was also her introduction to Milwaukee Film. (That same festival, she caught a screening of Wim Wenders' Wings of Desire projected from a reel of one of its original prints. It's been lodged deep in her heart ever since.)

Marielle says she's "thrilled to join Milwaukee Film, and to continue some of the most gratifying work of her life: educating and facilitating support for artists in Milwaukee." We say we hit the lottery having her on our staff. Welcome, Marielle!
