Milwaukee Film and Boswell Book Companys present a special evening with independent filmmaker, actor, and author Edward Burns featuring his debut novel, A Kid from Marlboro Road. This event will begin with a talk from Burns about his novel, and then he will introduce a screening of Saving Private Ryan, a film that features one of his acclaimed acting roles.
Each ticket for this event includes a signed copy of the book.
In Burns's debut novel, an Irish-American family comes to life through the eyes of a 12-year-old boy. Immigrants and storytellers, lilting voices and Long Island moxie are all part of this colorful Irish-Catholic community at the end of the 1970s. Out of one boy’s story a collective warmth emerges, a certain kind of American tale, raucous and joyous.
Saving Private Ryan features Edward Burns in his role as the rebellious Richard Reiben, one of the team of U.S. soldiers who go behind enemy lines to retrieve a paratrooper whose brothers have been killed in action. This acclaimed film was nominated for the 1999 Academy Award for Best Picture.
