Now in its third year, The Popcorn List (TPL), an annual survey of acclaimed feature films currently without wide release, offered up 25 films recommended by festival programmers from across the United States including Milwaukee Film’s Artistic Director Cara Ogburn. Those titles include Co-Directors’ Laura Dyan Kezman and William Howell’s documentary Cycle, which won one of the Cream City Cinema awards during the 2025 Milwaukee Film Festival. TPL aims to help these films screen more widely and secure distribution.
Cycle focuses on the tensions between the “official” account of what occurred when a Black teenager is killed by police on Juneteenth, and a mother’s relentless pursuit of truth.
