Description
Join us for a test screening of Duncan's Entertainment's new film, TURN IT UP! (working title).
When the FCC went after the world’s first radio shock jocks, a courageous team of misfit DJs in Chicago pushed back. Powerful on-air voices, dedicated fans, and groundbreaking radio management fought the battle ... and won. In just 15 years, a single FM signal in Chicago grew to more than 400 groundbreaking stations across America in one of the greatest media success stories of all time.
Narrated by the iconic William Shatner, TURN IT UP! features Jimmy Kimmel, Bob Odenkirk, Bob Smigel, and the team behind Chicago’s historic WLUP ... THE LOOP ... including on-air personalities Steve Dahl, Garry Meier, Jonathon Brandmeier, Kevin Matthews, Mancow Muller, Buzz Kilman, Wendy Snyder, Danny Bonaduce, and Sky Daniels. These guys didn’t just break the rules, they challenged the FCC, fought for freedom of speech, broke the best new rock ‘n roll talent, built an unprecedented fan base that covered America’s Midwest, and set the stage for a shock jock movement that inspired Howard Stern and today’s windfall of podcasts. And it all began with the historic DISCO DEMOLITION. The radio and music worlds shifted in 1979 when more than 40,000 fans came to a baseball double header armed with disco albums, then watched between games as anti-disco personalities Steve & Garry blew them up in center field. No one saw the international reaction coming – but both condemnation and celebration were swift. Steve Dahl became a household name overnight and LOOP ratings skyrocketed. The rise that followed built the LOOP into a radio juggernaut fueled by comedic genius and bawdy rule breakers whose creative freedom was propelled by a management team willing to challenge the FCC.
Following the screening, you'll be asked to share your thoughts on the film to assist the completion of the film in discussion with director Chip Duncan.
