Milwaukee Film to Present SINNERS on 70mm Film
MILWAUKEE – Tuesday, May 13th – Ryan Coogler’s new historical horror/drama Sinners has taken the world by storm, and Milwaukee Film is proud to present it on 70mm film starting this Friday, May 16th.
“Having the projection equipment—and trained staff—to show Sinners as intended is an important part of what it means to us to be a modern film exhibitor. Keeping the practice of celluloid projection alive at the Oriental Theatre connects us to the history of film and allows us to activate our cinema the way movies have been shown here for the majority of the theatre's lifetime,” expressed Kelsey Parks, Milwaukee Film’s Technical Manager. “Striving for the highest standard in film projection, including introducing the capability to project large format 70mm film to the Oriental Theatre, is an integral part of what we do at Milwaukee Film and we look forward to showing films on film to our audiences any time the opportunity allows,” she concluded.
Screenings of this 70mm film print will begin on May 16th and run for two weeks.
Milwaukee Film’s Director of Technology Kevin Rice explained, “The technical requirements for 70mm projection equipment can be complicated depending on the picture format. In the case of Sinners, the Ultra Panavision format requires the use of specialty anamorphic optics that are very rare and require the use of some experimental techniques in order to achieve the ultra wide aspect ratio of 2.76.” He continued, “With all this work done however, we're able to achieve maximum picture size and brightness on an appropriately masked screen that will deliver the best possible presentation for this film.”
