Back to News

Hello everyone and welcome to the 2019 Milwaukee Film Festival! After months of hard work and eager anticipation, we are back for the 11th year of our annual Festival. So strap in and get ready for 15 days of excellent film programming in our fine city! This year's Festival starts out strong and plays all your favorite hits from the 80s and 90s in the documentary I Want My MTV. The film starts at 7 PM tonight at The Oriental Theatre.

The film tracks MTV from its inception in August of 1981 when the idea of a 24 hour music video channel was widely dismissed as a crazy idea. Yet, as history shows, the idea was far from crazy and quickly became a phenomenon that had wide spreading impacts in the music industry and culture as a whole. The film also doesn't shy away from addressing the many criticisms and controversies MTV was embroiled in, most notably, a noticeable lack of diversity in the artists that were featured and its role in perpetuating systemic racism. Directors Tyler Measom and Patrick Waldrop are in attendance for the screening, so make sure to stick around for a Q&A after the film!

LIMITED TICKETS STILL AVAILABLE, BUT NO LONGER AVAILABLE ONLINE. TICKETS CAN BE PURCHASED AT THE ORIENTAL THEATRE BOX OFFICE (OPENING TODAY AT 4 P.M.)

The fun continues immediately after the screening when we'll head to Good City Brewing (East Side) for our Opening Night Party! Your ticket for I Want My MTV allows admittance into the party and your first drink is on us! We'll have DJs from 88Nine Radio Milwaukee and WMSE 91.7FM so you can dance the night away in style. We'll also have more live music in the tent outside with performances from Browns Crew and Zed Kenzo! If you aren't able to make it to the screening of I Want My MTV  but still want to go to the Opening Night Party, tickets can be purchased at the door at Good City Brewing!

Thank you everyone for your incredible enthusiasm and support and we hope to make this year's Festival the best one yet! See you at the movies!
