This Saturday evening, Marielle Allschwang & the Visitations will be putting on an unforgettable multimedia performance entitled Precession of a Day: The World of Mary Nohl, a music/video exploration of Mary Nohl, creator of a legendary Wisconsin art environment. It will be an incredible deep dive into this little-known, yet astoundingly prolific artist. It also happens that Marielle is a beloved co-worker of ours at Milwaukee Film, making this a very special evening for us as well! If you're on the fence about joining us on Saturday, let our staff convince you otherwise!
It'd be one thing if Marielle was just a massively empathetic and kind human being who makes my workdays immeasurably better. But she also happens to be a massively talented performer (seriously - buy her albums, you won't regret it), which seems excessive. Pick a lane, Marielle. Wonderful human or incredible artist. The immense talent that lies within Marielle knows no bounds and everytime I see her perform, I am in utter awe and completely mystified. Her ethereal voice and poetic songwriting are too good for this earth! Her records are played in my home on the regs and we should all be grateful that she has shared her art with us. I am incredibly lucky in that I get to sit next to Marielle at work. Like me, Marielle was implanted with a broken jukebox in her head. There have been many times when she or I will randomly utter a song lyric from some forgotten pop song, prompting us to burst into song... oftentimes adjusting the lyrics to suit the current work situation.

In addition to being a talented artist and kind soul (which makes her a great co-worker, as so many have noted), Marielle is a talented educator, bringing a quiet grace to her encouters with students (young and old) and a deeply reflective quality to her own learning and growth, which she sees as a neverending process (Montessori through and through). I am the self-appointed biggest fan of Marielle Allschwang, the musician. I guess her husband gets to be the biggest fan of Marielle, the person. (But, I get to be the Treasurer.) I have every album she has released from any of her bands. Her music is touching and angelic and thoughtful and skillful and poetic. Getting to see one of her shows is a privilage. Separate note: I would take a bullet for Marielle. I can't imagine how this would ever come up, so I feel at ease making this promise. But, I would.
