The Mountain

Sponsored by: Laughlin Constable

Director Rick Alverson in attendance for 10/24 screening!

In the 1950s, a young photographer (Tye Sheridan) who has just lost his mother goes to work with a controversial doctor (Jeff Goldblum) who specializes in lobotomy therapy, just as it’s being nationally debunked as a legitimate medical practice. What ensues is a quiet, artful, and intense observational critique of an America still dominated by male supremacy. Sometimes comedic, sometimes uncomfortable, and sometimes both, The Mountain is Rick Alverson’s most accomplished film yet.

"THE MOUNTAIN, with its long stretches of quiet, bleak subject matter, and Alverson's staunch refusal to let us in, or fill in the blanks, creates a genuinely unnerving mood." - RogerEbert.com

"THE MOUNTAIN is, after all, a look back at a time when individuality was a curse with a scientifically harsh solution. It's only appropriate that it unfold with its own distinctive aura of exquisite sterility." - Los Angeles Times

"Sheridan and Goldblum are a ghastly duo in the spellbinding film that falls somewhere between David Lynch and Yorgos Lanthimos." - The Victoria Advocate
