MAM x Black Lens: Myth of a Colorblind France

“Film Screening and Panel Discussion: “Myth of a Colorblind France” | 6–8 PM | Milwaukee Art Miuseum (700 N Art Museum Dr)

Join us at the Milwaukee Art Museum for a screening of a documentary that explores the lives of renowned Black American expatriates in France following the lineage of Josephine Baker, James Baldwin, and Richard Wright. While illustrating the artistic inspiration of France, it also magnifies the legacies of racism and colonialism throughout Francophone Africa and the Caribbean.

Panelists include Dr. Patrick Bellegarde-Smith, professor emeritus of Africology at UW-Milwaukee; Dr. Boubakary Diakite, associate professor of French at Marquette University; and Dr. Nat Godley, assistant professor of History at Alverno College.”
