Oyate

Cultures & Communities Festival

Screening sponsor:

Part of the 2022 Cultures & Communities Festival, sponsored by Kohl's!

Braiding together the larger history of the Native American protest movement with a vast range of responses to the continued injustices of today - OYATE captures continued perseverance in the face of challenges facing Indigenous cultures, territories, languages, and lives. Legacy activists such as Russell Means are placed alongside contemporary Water Protectors at Standing Rock, showing a lineage of activism informing nuanced perspectives on specific injustices but also on how these add up to a much larger history.
