Milwaukee Film Blog What We're Watching
Queen of Versailles

Queen of Versailles @ Oriental Theatre (Opens Friday, August 31)
(dir. Lauren Greenfield, USA, 2012)
Technically, this is a film about a family losing their home due to the housing market crash. More accurately, this is a film about a family of billionaires (with an interesting sense of entitlement) losing their 90,000-square-foot mansion modeled after the Palace of Versailles due to the housing market crash. Now, rub your thumb and forefinger together and say it with me: "This is the sound of the world's smallest violin..."

Battle Royale @ UWM Union Theater (Tuesday, September 4 at 7 PM)
(dir. Kinji Fukasaku, Japan, 2000)
One of our favorite things about this time of year is the official kick-off of the UWM Union Theatre’s Fall 2012 film program. They celebrate film like nobody’s business, highlighting local, experimental, cult, world and independent cinema greatness. (You can check out their full fall schedule here.) As part of their kick-off week, they’re screening the modern cult classic Battle Royale, which Flaming Lips fans might recognize as what played in the background on stage during the Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots tour.

The Bourne Legacy @ Rosebud Cinema Drafthouse (Friday, Aug 31 at 6:30 & 9:30 PM)
(dir. Tony Gilroy, USA, 2012)
There’s something… different about you, Wauwatosa. It’s almost as if you’re glowing. You have a date? We knew it! What are you doing on this date? Going to The Bourne Legacy at the Rosebud Cinema Drafthouse’s official re-opening? That movie’s been out for wee— THE ROSEBUD CINEMA DRAFTHOUSE IS RE-OPENING THIS WEEKEND?!? Yay!!!
