I'm pretty excited to tell you about this month's film. Possibly the most talked-about film from the festival circuit this year...
Our film this month is... Beasts of the Southern Wild.
From Sundance, where it won the Grand Jury Prize, to Cannes, where it won the Camera d'Or, director Behn Zeitlin's Beasts of the Southern Wild is the cat's pajamas of independent film.
Hushpuppy, an intrepid six-year-old girl, lives with her father, Wink, in "the Bathtub", a southern Delta community at the edge of the world. Wink's tough love prepares her for the unraveling of the universe. When Wink contracts a mysterious illness, nature flies out of whack -temperatures rise, and the ice caps melt, unleashing an army of prehistoric creatures called aurochs. With the waters rising, the aurochs coming, and Wink's health fading, Hushpuppy goes in search of her lost mother.
Joining us for the screening will be Milwaukee native and Executive Producer of Beasts of the Southern Wild, Mike Raisler.
This Members-Only screening will take place on Wednesday, July 18th at 7 pm at the Landmark Oriental Theatre. Members can RSVP now at membership@milwaukee-film.org. Space is limited and tickets are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Reservation closes on Monday, July 16.
A COUPLE OF IMPORTANT NOTICES:
With the festival just around the corner, we've had to adjust the dates for the next few screenings. Mark the following on your calendars: August 22nd, September 12th and October 3rd (this year's Super Secret Members Screening at the Festival!).
Another important note: Some of you have not been getting a response from me when you send your RSVP. If you don't hear from me within a day it probably means I didn't receive your email. If that's the case, just give me a call at 414-755-1965 x204 and I'll take your RSVP over the phone. This will be particularly important for July's screening, because we can only admit those who have RSVP'd, since we have a strict maximum for this film.
