Education intern Maria here. When I accepted the position of Education intern, I thought, "I started out as a high school student in the screenwriting program! This is going to be so weird!" Well it hasn’t been weird, it’s been awesome.
I had the privilege of working on both the Girl Scout music video earlier this year and The Vampire Formerly Known as Dracula set this past weekend. Working with the Girl Scouts was a lot of fun. For six weeks, we got to help a local troop make a music video for the local band, Vic & Gab. We taught them the basics of video making and let them get some hands-on experience with some of the equipment. I was a little disappointed that I couldn’t be around for the last day, as I was out of town, but it sounded like we inspired some future filmmakers!
The Vampire Formerly Known as Dracula shoot was just exciting. Period. For months we were getting ready for this shoot and it was finally here! When I was on set, there was this energy and excitement, and I knew I was a part of something great. Everyone was pumped and ready to go! The sets looked awesome! The costumes were fantastic! And the acting deserves some kind of an award! It’s hard to describe what it was like on that set. Working on set is a one of a kind experience; it’s hard to put into words. Really all I can say is that I had a blast, the cast and crew had a blast, and it was really great to see Ian’s script get made into a movie. I can’t wait to see it through post-production all the way to the big screen.
The Vampire Formerly Known as Dracula will premiere as part of The Milwaukee Show during the Milwaukee Film Festival (Sept. 27 - Oct. 11). Look for it in our program book on Sept. 8!
