In the lead-up to the 2012 Milwaukee Film Festival, we had several enthusiastic interns in the office helping us get ready for the fest. We've been profiling them here throughout the season and have a couple left to share with you. Yesterday was our Marketing Intern, Diego's last day with us. We wish him all the best and thank him for all his hard work for the festival! --Blyth
Tell us about yourself.
Hello! My name is Diego Hernandez and I just graduated from UWM with a BFA in Film! What a wonderful feeling it is to have gotten your degree. I'm interested in documentary film-making and post production. I was born in Bogotá, Colombia and try to visit every year or so. I'm 21 and my favorite film is Kill Bill Vol.1 & 2. I enjoy watching movies but I enjoy playing around with a camera and creating things that much more!
How did you end up at Milwaukee Film? What is your role in making the film festival happen?
I had been wanting to intern at Milwaukee Film since last year, but I had Summer plans to go to Argentina and Chile. This year, as soon as I got an email about the applications, I jumped on it! I am now the Marketing Intern. I've been doing a lot of research on different case studies from other festivals from web design to programming. So far I've learned so much and I can't wait to continue learning more this Summer!
What was your favorite film from last year's festival?
I would say that
Wish Me Away was my favorite. The story is so compelling, it was like an emotional roller coaster. There were times I wanted to laugh, and times I wanted to cry. It really touched the human side of everyone and the friend & family dynamics that were documented were priceless. After watching the film, I just wanted to give Chely Wright a hug and tell her I support her— that she has been of great inspiration to me and others.
What are some of your plans for the future?
Now that I've graduated, I want to continue making shorts and documentaries while also developing my skills in post production. I also would like to do some traveling, which is another one of my passions.
If you could chose, which filmmaker would you love to work with?
As I mentioned before, Kill Bill is one of my favorite movies. I must say, Quentin Tarantino would be a treat to work with. His films are always so interesting and stylistically eclectic. I would love to learn how he makes creative decisions. Plus, I would be excited to work on Kill Bill Vol. 3!
If you could recast your favorie classic film with a modern cast, what and who would it be?
I'm highly in love with Citizen Kane. I think that Owen Wilson would make a great Charles Kane. Mr. Kane was hated by many and admired by many more. Who doesn't love Owen Wilson? Not to repeat Midnight In Paris, but Ms. Susan Alexander should be played by Rachel McAdams. She has that timeless beauty that Ms. Alexander was so blessed and cursed with. Lastly, for Mr. Thompson the reporter, I would have to say Tobey Maguire.
